Is your sample size representative of the general population? I am Gen X and suspect that many of my colleagues, and folks older than me, enjoy reading the newspaper. Like the counterpoint, I too read the paper at breakfast, and it would be difficult to click around Boston.com while I eat my morning cereal. I am also on the computer for much of the day and it’s a treat to read a full size paper, which has more surface area than my 17” computer screen. The problem with solely reading a newspaper is that I may miss the latest breaking stories. Do I care? Not really… except that I can feel behind at times when a colleague may be aware of a late breaking story that I am not. In the end – I think both modes will continue – each form (online and newspaper) will change and adapt over time. For the record, I call up every 6 months to get a 50% discount off the Globe, I do visit selected online sites for news and I have organic skim milk with my cereal.
